In January I kept seeing posts on Facebook about "Siesta Sisters" and I had no idea what that meant. At the church I work at part-time the woman there invited me to be a part of the Siesta Scripture Memory Verse Challenge. I was interested because I have a desire to memorize scripture more but I cannot be my own accountability so I checked it out Siesta Scripture Memory Instructions. Pretty much what you do is memorize a verse on the 1st of the month and then pick another on the 15th of the month. That is just two verses each month for a year that you are memorizing. But the kicker is you need to be able to know all 24 by the end of the year. I did not get invited to this until almost the end of the January (and I did not want to play catch up) so I decided I would start February 1st.
I asked Lynda to join me in doing this (but we are not posting to Beth Moore's site) but just doing this together. It is always nice to do things with someone else, that is the best part of community...
Making it work!
Since I sit at my desk all day long and need some stimulation to wake me up, I decided to get an index card spiral notebook thing. This way it can sit on my desk and I can memorize them while I am at work. Lynda puts them up around her mirror so she can see them while she is getting ready. I thought surely two a month wouldn't be an issue but you really have to be intentional. I think because you have two weeks it is easy to think you have a lot of time and push it aside. But, it seems to be working out pretty well...
February 1st:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27 (NIV)
February 15th:
“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
John 7:37-38 (NKJV)
Macrh 1st:
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
For I am the LORD your God."
Isaiah 43:2-3 (NIV)
March 15th:
"We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name."
Psalm 33:20-21 (NIV)
April 1st: (the newest verse)
"Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
Psalm 73:25-26 (NIV)
I will keep you updated on how this is coming as we move forward this year...
Have a great April Fool's Day (and if you are like me and dislike pranks, hopefully you will be lucky enough to not get fooled!)
