bug bites and more...nothing normal

Oh man oh man. It is great to say that this week I felt like a normal human being seeing how I was able to go to bed at a decent time each night and get up and function.  Life has just been crazy busy and this week was nice to be normal for once.

Normal is kind of a funny word, since we make up what we assume to be how things should be.  Normal is whatever we determine normal to be.

My bodies ability to stay healthy is far from normal. Normal would be getting the flu or a cold or pink eye. My body is not normal, it goes above and beyond to make sure that I stay healthy.  I have NOT had the flu since I was a little kid (maybe 7years old).  And this is why I will never get the shot.  Why put a virus in my body that doesn't have it in it now.  I have NEVER had strep. (The one time that I thought I was getting strep they tested me but I didn't have it. I dont have allergies and I dont get colds more than maybe twice a year.

Trust me you cannot just chalk it up to me not being around people that are sick. I worked with kids in high school and I work with them now.  I work at a University as well with lots of germs.  When I was in school in CO there were many times my roommates had the flu and whatever else and I would go untouched.  That is not just luck folks.

BUT all good things are not perfect.  My body is lacking in certain areas...my ability to process antibiotics is VERY and I mean VERY limited. I know I have shared about any infection I might get and taking medicines that mess with my stomach.  Really I just have a weak stomach and can get the 24hour stomach flu/ get sick from food easier than most.

Also I get weird things.  In Kindergarten I did not go to school for 2 weeks because I had these red bumbs similar to chicken pox (but they we not) that spread all over my body after I had a ring worm looking thing on my leg. (it was not ring worm).  Two doctors and a dermatologist later we found out it was NOT contagious and I had missed school for no reason.  And that it would just go away on its own.

And when I do get things like little infections that others may get and its not to uncommon I get the certain type that is found in woman over 50yrs old or whatever and it takes 3weeks to go away due to the wrong medicine being prescribed because I didn't have the most common type of infection.

This week was far from normal when it comes to health.  It started Saturday morning with a swollen red upper eyelid on my right eye.  The swelling went down but my eye was still feeling funny and I didn't wear my contacts.  I think Friday and Saturday I noticed on the crest of my helix (on the ear) I had some scabbing or crusting and it was tender. I picked it away and the next day it was back even worse. Sunday evening I noticed a bite mark on my hip almost on my underwear line.  It looked just like a mosquito bite but different still and it felt different to the touch.  I thought okay try not to scratch  and it will go away.

The bite lessened and wasn't super noticeable and I stopped thinking about it.  The eye was less swollen as well but I kept contacts out until Wednesday morning to give it time to heal.  Wednesday I realized I had little white bumps on the eye underside of the eye lid.  I have not been able to wear contacts yet, without it being irritated but I think its going away.  The ear was treated by some alcohol and Neosporin action and is all good today.  All sounds good right. Not so fast folks.  The bug bite on my hip is now inflamed and red and hurts worse and is irritated. Just another day in the life of Megan I supposed.  But super annoying.

I would take the strep or flu over this any day.  I hate constantly having to guess what is wrong. Hopefully with some medicine for the bite and a few more days cleaning my eyes well and not wearing contacts I will be good Monday.  If not, maybe I will need to go to the doctors...we will see.
