I played softball in high school and I loved it. It was one of those things that just came together for me. I played volleyball in middle school and everyone made a team. I could not jump serve for the life of me but I enjoyed the team aspect of it. Entering high school a friend of mine and I signed up for volleyball tryouts/interest. She also convinced me to sign up for softball. I had never played any baseball, t-ball or softball in my life. But why the heck not!?
So when I had to miss one of the try out days because of a funeral I did not make the volleyball team. (But lets be real, I am not so sure I would have been that great or made it even if I went).
So while lots of my friends played volleyball in the fall semester, fall conditioning for softball began. I showed up every Monday-Thursday. We lifted weights Mondays and Wednesdays and did other types of conditioning outside Tuesdays and Thursdays. All of this was optional but I didn't really have much else going on right after school my freshman year first semester, so I went. This was and will probably be the only time I could really do push ups and pull ups. And it may have helped with baby fat that I still had from being a kid. I may have gotten sick one day due to deyhdration after being the only one there for conditioning one day. But all in all it was good for me.
I played freshman and sophomore year for my high school as the second baseman. I got the most improved player my freshman year (well that was easy seeing how I had never played before). As well as the best defensive player sophomore year. We did not win much, but it was so much more than that.
Some of us from our high school team played with a church league over the summers (I did this the summer after freshman, sophomore and junior year). The last summer they put me as catcher. Not my favorite thing. Did I mention its gets pretty hot in Arizona without having to put on all the gear that a catcher has to put on? But I did it :)

Oh you know, no one wanted the oranges that someone brought for snack so I ate a whole gallon zip lock baggie full of sliced oranges. Refreshing! |
We will see how much muscle memory and skill I have retained over the last 8 years!
Did I mention the field is right next to our house? Excited!
